Article Outline

I would like to introduce Carol Carrier as guest editor for Newborn and Infant Nursing Reviews' September issue. Carol has been a neonatal nurse for 24 years and neonatal clinical nurse specialist for 18 years. She is currently one of four neonatal clinical nurse specialists for Texas Children's Hospital Newborn Center with140-bed level III and II neonatal intensive care unit in Houston, Tex. Carol serves as a part-time faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Nursing. She obtained her bachelor degree in nursing at the University of Mississippi in Jackson, Miss. She received the Harold Stirling Vanderbilt Award for a full scholarship to Vanderbilt University where she graduated with a master of science in nursing. Carol has lectured locally, regionally, and nationally on neonatal topics. Carol has been involved in neonatal research and published in peer-reviewed journals. She has authored or coauthored chapters in editions of Wong's 7th Edition of Nursing Care of Infants and Children, National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) Developmental Care of Newborns and Infants: A Guide for Health Professionals (2004), and the 4th edition of the Core Curriculum for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (2010).
Carol Carrier will highlight numerous evidence-based articles in this issue titled “Hot Topics in Neonatal Care.” The various articles presented in this issue incorporate evolving science and new knowledge into practice. “The way we've always done it” is no longer the way to promote safe care of infants. Staying current may seem challenging, given our increasingly busy schedules; however, infants and families are relying on us to provide the best care possible based on the latest rigorous science.
